Traceable Stock in BOM Assemblies

If the setting on the Stock/BOM Options under Works Order Movements is set to Issued, then the creation of works orders, either manually or when using the Automatic Works Order command, can result in the issue of an assembly with traceable components which is the stage at which serial or batch numbers are assigned.

If the setting is either Ordered or Allocated, then the assignment of serial or batch numbers for traceable stock takes place at the point of progressing the works orders to the issued stage. This might be done using the Issue command on the BOM application's Processing menu in the case of manual works order progression, or when batches of works orders are progressed to the issued stage when you use the Works Order Progress command.

When traceable stock associated with BOM assemblies are issued, you have the opportunity of assigning batch or serial numbers accordingly. The method of assignment is similar to the general instructions given in the sections Basic Procedure for Picking Batch Numbered Items and Basic Procedure for Picking Serial Numbered Items.

When progressing works orders in batches using the Works Order Progress command, the 'T' column in the grid that lists the selected works orders is used to indicate which assemblies contain traceable stock. These works orders must be selected manually for processing. For example, by default, none of the works orders in the grid are selected for progression, but you can use the Reverse Selection command on the Action menu to select all works orders. However, works orders containing traceable stock are not selected under these circumstances, so you must select them individually.

When you manually select a works order containing traceable stock, you are then presented with the Traceable Lines form which you can use to carry out the batch or serial number assignments.
